You may have seen a number of iPhone applications coming out in the last few months. FlyCast, on the other hand, is going the other way. The company develops mobile application for iPhone and BlackBerry. Now the app has come to the desktop. FlyCast has released an Adobe AIR based desktop client. The app can now be run on Windows, Mac and Linux systems.

How do you manage wish lists and checklists?

Amazon - The grandaddy wish list keeper of them all now supports all other sites thanks to their universal wish list button.

WishPot - Has the most modern web 2.0 look and feel, as well as social networking features that let you share lists. Another strong feature is the ability to send ideas for gifts from your cell phone right to your wishpot account.

Wists - Another strong web 2.0 site with nice options to embed your wish lists on your blog or website.

MyFavz - One of the newest wish list sites. We recently covered it here on Mashable.

BoxedUP - Real time listing of new items added to wish lists is unique, but is it useful? The ability to show what you already bought and own is nice for youngsters who want to show off their stuff.

Wisheo - Specializes in group gifts, which sets the site apart from many of the others.

GiftBox Home - Similar to boxed up and the easiest to use, but its interface is not as slick as the other newcomers.

MyThings - Its unique feature is the ability to get ratings and feedback from others for any gift ideas you have.

My IT Things - Not to be confused with MyThings.com. It offers some nice widgets to show off your lists.

Wishlistr - Slick list maker that you can share with others. Includes rss feed of lists.

ReQall - Create shopping lists, wish lists and more. View them on your iPhone with free app too.

Checklists

These list makers can be used to track things you’d like to buy, but more often they’re used to keep track of places to visit, people to meet, things to do before kicking the bucket, etc.

Voo2Do - Does things differently than the rest in this group. Allow you to link tasks to projects and tracks tasks by due date, priority and time estimates. It has a good collaboration feature and a nice interface.

Remember The Milk -The popular task manager that can snap into Gmail or work on its site. See below for the iPhone app.

TaDa List - Very simple but powerful to do lists from 37Signals.

ListaGator - Offers unique ability to turn lists into RSS feeds. You can share any list as well.

Worst3 - Mostly just for laughs, you can share lists of the best 3 and worst 3 things you can think of.

Doominow - Adobe Air desktop app that tracks your tasks.

onZiList - List your top 11 (not 10?) items.

Seekler - Mostly just displays lists of people’s favorite things.

Wridea - Also offers RSS feeds and shareable lists.

43Things - Lets you lists your goals in life and connects you to others who have either already achieved those goals or who are also currently pursuing the same goals.

43People - A sibling site to 43things, only geared towards people you want to meet instead of things to do.

43Places - The natural sibling site to 43things, only for places you want to go instead of things to do.

FlexLists - Looks and feels more like an online database than just a list maker.

Stuffable - Mostly a place to show off your, well, stuff. Gives people a good idea of what you’re into.

ListPhile - Lists with database capabilities. Lots of possibilities with groups.

In a tragic story from NewTeeVee, we learn that a 19-year-old user of the online live-streaming video service Justin.TV has apparently commit suicide in front of an audience of fellow forum dwellers egging him on during the process. The death has been confirmed with the Broward County medical examiner and the timeline has been pieced together from several different forums that have chronicled the unfortunate series of events.

Most of the participants, as well as the deceased Abraham K. Biggs, were denizens of steroid information forum bodybuilding.com. Biggs, also known as CandyJunkie on the forum and Feels Like Ecstasy on Justin.TV, is alleged to have been a “well known troll” on the forum. He created a thread in the “misc” category yesterday afternoon detailing the amount of drugs he’s going to take with the intention to kill himself.

The moderators of the forum didn’t take his threats seriously “on account of his past trolling,” and other forum members continue to egg him on. At that point, Biggs posted his suicide note, which conveyed a general sense of depression and disappointment with life, not necessarily motivated by any hardship or cyber-bullying he may have received online.

At that point, Biggs turned on his Justin.TV channel, took the pills and laid down to go to sleep on his bed. After an unspecified amount of time, one forum member in particular from India became concerned by Biggs’ lack of movement and hunted down the actual name and location. He then pleaded with the forum to call the Miami-Dade police department, but was met with cynical replies declining to intervene on account of his “troll status.”

After several unsuccessful emails by the forum member to Miami-Dade police, he borrowed his father’s mobile and spoke to a number of policemen who didn’t take the call seriously, but directed him to the Broward County Sheriff’s Department.

Approximately an hour later, Biggs’ door was busted down and BSO and paramedics arrived on the scene. After quickly confirming his status, covered the camera.

This Isn’t a Result of Cyber Bullying, but the Behavior is No Less Atrocious.

We’re no stranger to covering suicides that take place with a large social component, and as chilling as it may be, this sort of thing will cease to be headline news in the future and actually be regarded as commonplace.

In 2004, students of Japanese culture were shocked to learn of online suicide clubs amongst the youth there. Over the the summer, I covered here at Mashable a series of suicides that were highly documented by virtue of their Bebo pages.

Children and young people committing suicide is not new.  Doing it in full view of the public by virtue of their social networking profiles or even live on camera as with Biggs is. This is simply a side-effect of our always on culture.

It’s easy to look for bad people or the misbehaved as scapegoats, and in this particular instance, there is plenty of blame to go around.  A screen capture of the chat room next to Biggs’ camera shows a shocking disregard for his feelings and of human life in general. Those of us who’ve been denizens of the Internet for any length of time know this is nothing new.

Events such as this are bait for politicians and empathetic impetus for well-meaning citizens alike to come together with righteous fury for social change and try to either pass a law or convict a suspect to “right the wrong,” “find justice,” and “prevent it from occurring again.”

I won’t pretend to know the pain of Biggs’ family, or any other family of a suicide victim, but as I said in the aftermath of the Bebo Suicide Cult, technology isn’t the demon here, only a conduit for the symptoms. It is the portal that can allow us assist our loved ones and perhaps spot a tragedy like this some distance off. Social media and social networking is meant to facilitate real live human interaction, which in the case of the depressed and suicidal can be what the doctor ordered.

Music recommendation engine, Mufin that recommends tracks based on the characteristic of their sound is now in public beta. The announcement for this was combined with the introduction of two apps for the iTunes and the Facebook. The apps will enable users to get their ears at new tracks at both the iTunes and the Facebook. I think Mufin has done the right thing with the simultaneous launch across various platforms and it may very well prove advantageous as long as the business point of view is concerned.

The small Firefox add-on Quote URL Text adds a new entry to the context menu of the web browser. The Quote Text entry can be used to copy the selected text and the url of the page to the Clipboard. This saves the step of having to copy the url separately when quoting text on a web page.

The Firefox add-on comes with a few options to include additional information like the title of the page and the date the page was visited. There is even a separate tab for advanced formatting options which allows for additional format changes.

The add-on seems to have a bug when pressing the context menu entry without having selected text before. The error does not have any bad effects though other than having to click on the OK button to get rid of it.

It would be nice if the developer of the add-on would include a few more options. Some interesting ones would be the use of a url shortening service and the ability to add html code to the formatting. One could for instance create a valid html link pointing to the url of the page with the link as the anchor.
